New York Fishing – Deep Sea Fishing in NY

By Fisherman

I guess that deep sea fishing doesn’t instantly pop up in your mind when you think about traveling to New York. However, this is amazing opportunity to experience something totally new, no matter if you are an advanced fisherman or just started to feel the taste of catching those water creatures in different ways. There are plenty of hobbies that people enjoy doing in this world, but it seems that nothing can take the real place that fishing is playing at the moment. If you are a fisher that has been to NY and never enjoyed deep sea fishing, you lost buddy…

When I tell people that New York is considered one of the most important cities of the world when it comes to various sport fishing activities they remain surprised. They know about the Statue of Liberty, but they have no clue about deep sea fishing that people have the unique chance to experience in this state of US. Montauk (NY, Long Island) are one of the top places when it comes to this special type of catching the marine creatures that so many enthusiasts all over the world are after. Don’t come so often to New York if you don’t want to discover fishing.

There are several amazing deep sea fishing spots on Long Island. Have you ever heard about Fire Island Inlet? How about Sheepshead Bay? Or maybe you are a fan of the mighty Hudson River? No matter what you were told or might be told in the future, I’m positively sure that you guys will certainly appreciate the superiority of Montauk when it comes to finding a special region that not only outshines everything else for its beauty and uniqueness, but also for a number of extremely difficult to catch fish in extremely large quantities (Marlin, Tuna, Bluefish, Bass, etc)

I would like to thank all those people that did their best in order to protect the surrounding environment and especially those hard to find and catch fish (take the striped bass for example). If you are trying to catch this type of fish the best time to actually try and do it is starting from May and ending in November. During the first two months of the spring catching fish is prohibited in almost all the places in the world. This is the time when both amateur and professional fishermen rest and forget about going on waters in into the large seas and oceans.

Trolling is my favorite method of catching striped bass in New York. However, there are plenty of other methods that you can use. You can even try surfcasting. Anyways, live baits always worked the best and will probably now as well. Run a few tests by using bloodworms and maybe even sandworm. However, don’t catch everything that you can since you might get into various kinds of trouble. There are plenty of recreational limits about this breed of fish and one has to be extremely attentive because the guys from the Environment Protection are watching you.

I remember my New York deep sea fishing experience. I was so excited that I couldn’t even believe I was doing it. This is indeed something special that not all people have access to and the necessary free time to start. However, there are people who simply don’t like fishing at all. However, what I am trying to say that most of the people that are into these water hobbies and have done it at least once aren’t going to be able to easily stop and will continue to do it over and over again, each and every season when they arrive in this amazing fishing state of New York.

However, even if New York has plenty of water basins (the sea, lakes, rivers, etc) and even beginners can find opportunities to start their fishing careers, it is important to know that deep sea fishing is not for those who lack total experience.  I guess this is for intermediate or advanced fishermen. Specialists claim that this is not a sport that anyone can take. Catching this fish is not that easy and it also requires a lot of strength to handle his fight and to get it to the shore. The closer you pull it to the land the harder it will try to escape. Losing the rod is possible.

However, if you know what catching bluefish is all about and this is not the first day of fishing in your life than it means that you are ready to experience what New York has to offer. I suggest that you find a charter boat with a crew and a captain if you don’t have your own. You are going to need someone to guide you to those places where you can find plenty of fish and besides just enjoying catching it, to feel the amazing atmosphere of your small vacation. This is what deep sea fishing in NY is all about.
